Simon’s Town:
The False Bay seaboard is a charming stretch of Cape Town coastline, steeped in colourful history and with a myriad of cultures. There are several coastal villages dotted all along the shore. We offer a wide range of fantastic holiday accommodation here. Each area has its own unique appeal, beaches and tidal pools: Simon's Town, Glencairn, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg. From each of these beaches, you can enjoy the sweeping beauty of False Bay with its filmic backdrop of the Hottentots-Hollands mountain range.
And the water is a bit warmer than on the Atlantic side, which makes swimming on this side much more fun!
If you take the scenic coastal drive from Cape Point, the first seaside village you’ll enter is Simon’s Town. The main street is lined with beautifully restored Victorian buildings, which house cosy cafés, quirky vintage stores, and excellent restaurants.
Take some time to explore the four museums in Simon’s Town: Heritage Museum, SA Naval Museum, Simon’s Town Museum and the Toy Museum (always a hit with the kids). The stylish Quayside Waterfront overlooking the little harbour invites you to watch the yachts and catamarans bobbing on the water as you sip on a sundowner or tuck into a seafood platter.
And don't miss the opportunity to see the African Penguins at Boulders Beach, the only species of penguin on the African continent. Boulders is the perfect family beach, with its large granite boulders and shallow turquoise waters, ideal for swimming and perfect for young children to splash around in. You even get the thrill of swimming with the penguins! They may be clumsy on land but they are streamlined black and white darts in the water.
If you want to continue your water explorations, the scuba diving off Simon's Town Long beach is renowned for great sightings of varied sea life. It is the place to go when conditions are bad everywhere else, with several small wrecks and old mooring chains that have become mini-reefs. There are several diving and boating operators based in the town, ready to create the perfect marine adventure for you.
If you stay in one of our gorgeous holiday villas along this coastline, you might be lucky enough to spot some whales from the comfort of your couch. (Whale season is from July to November.)
