Summary

Kimberley House is a gracious old house filled with light, situated halfway up a cobbled cul-de-sac, a few metres from the sea. It was built in 1895 and is constructed using the existing rocks of the mountainside and local stone, very much in the tradition of Kalk Bay and St James, the two neighbouring villages along the southern coastal road where it is situated.

Living

Sleeping 6 people, it is a spacious house with high ceilings, lovely old wooden floors of Oregon pine, and elegant proportions. It also has four bathrooms, a generous kitchen with dishwasher, a lounge with fireplace and a dining room. Outside is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. All of it is decorated in a simple, uncluttered style but every effort has been made to retain the integrity of the house as a fine example of an early South African home.

Leisure

A huge semi-circular patio from which you can almost reach out and touch the sea and watch whales and dolphins cavorting in the bay, a sheltered garden with lots of birdlife out front and a sunny courtyard and herb garden out back. Dalebrook tidal rock pool, a favourite swimming hole for Kalk Bay’s early risers, is a couple of minutes’ walk away. Carry on past the cafés, art galleries, antique and junk shops, ice cream parlour and numerous trendy and retro clothes boutiques to Kalk Bay harbour where colourful fishing boats arriving with their daily catch compete with colourful characters and tame seals for entertainment. Stop at the famous Olympia Deli - the ultimate in shabby chic, but famous for its fantastic no-nonsense contemporary food, excellent fish and superb bakery.
