The surrounding jungle complements the exotic woods used throughout the bungalow, while also cutting out the neighbouring properties to complete the feeling of a secluded tropical beach paradise. As well as numerous private decks and different entertainment areas, including 4 separate lounges, this captivating six bedroom villa has a large private garden that is complemented by a 16m pool, a sauna and a restful cascading stream. And there are beautiful sea and mountain views in all directions.
This is the ultimate beach house for the discerning client who wants the convenience of beachside living in a private, secure and wind free environment, without any of the compromises normally associated with a beachside bungalow.
Extensively remodelled in late 2009, Dolphin cottage exudes an atmosphere of elegant repose in its light clapboard colonial exteriors and restful invitingly warm interiors of intricate design and polished finishes of mahogany, iroko and other exotic woods. This quintessential beachside cottage benefits from a setting of spacious seclusion with abundant mature trees and palms, an expansive pool patio, separate barbecue and entertainment areas and restful stream that runs down the full length of the property. The wind-free Glen Beach location is set back from the beach and uniquely for the Atlantic Seaboard location, this superb private home is completely concealed from its neighbours by attractive tropical vegetation. The privacy of the gardens affords the property fine sea and beach views framed by numerous palm trees, which also provide shade and protection from the mid afternoon heat and sea glare. In addition, there are fine mountain views.
Dolphin cottage is only steps away from one of the most exclusive sand beaches in Cape Town which, while adjacent to the much larger and popular Camps Bay beach, is separated from it by a border of protective granite boulders. This deceptively spacious villa is in the most popular part of Cape Town and yet completely private and hidden, such that even locals who know the area well have trouble finding it. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful private homes in Cape Town.
One enters the property through a charming white wooden gate leading onto a beautifully paved patio shaded by large indigenous trees, with a large wooden deck to the front and an inviting tropical garden to the rear. Extensive use of natural paving and local stone gives a robust warm appeal. The 16m heated pool has an attractive grotto at one end and is surrounded by spacious sundecks, an outdoor shower and a solar powered sauna. An inviting outdoor dining area under the tree canopy provides shade during the day with patio heaters for evening al fresco entertaining. The interiors are imaginatively decorated to the highest standards in quality materials and finishes.
The large ground floor reception living room has expansive windows, dark solid wood floors and comfortable furnishing with a part colonial, part afro chic feel to it. Wide patio doors open onto the large sea facing veranda on one side and an expansive garden on the other, with the gentle sea breeze eliminating the need for air conditioning. The chandeliered hallway leads to a separate luxurious television lounge which enjoys views back over the tropical rear garden terraces and a cascading waterfall. Also on this floor is a beautiful wood panelled en suite bedroom with impressive sea and jungle views over the front veranda. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for entertaining.
An intricate and elegant central staircase, framed by expansive mountain views, takes one down to the large sunny lounge and the 4 bedrooms on the lower ground floor, which have a distinctive beach feel. There is also a full-specification kitchen here, as well as the original brick wine cellar with oak barrel-vaulted ceiling. External wooden stairs lead from the paved courtyard back up to the main veranda deck above. All bathrooms are individually fitted and decorated in various materials and finishes.
Upstairs on the 1st floor one is struck by the intricate wooden ceiling of interwoven lime washed trusses redolent of maritime design in the spacious master bedroom suite. A central partition of attractive ash wood wardrobes separates the bedroom suite from the private lounge. There is a wide balcony to the front facilitating expansive sea views and views of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostils mountain range, while two further balconies lead off on both sides. To one side the east balcony gets the morning sun and looks through the trees to the pool and back garden and enjoys views of Lions Head, while on the other side a spacious private afternoon sun deck with classic sea views beckons. Offset, to the rear is a large study with both sea and mountain views as well as fax and broadband internet connectivity. The ensuite bathroom has a walk-in double shower, elongated oval freestanding bath and onyx topped washbasin cabinets, with magnificent mountain views on one side and sea views on the other. White shuttered windows provide elegant screening with a Caribbean plantation feel. Fine brass chandeliers adorn the ceilings while sumptuously upholstered furniture and splashes of wallpaper lend a decadent touch. The seafaring feel is underscored by sea facing portholes in the shower and study areas. Double garaging is provided on the property while separate staff quarters are located discreetly off the courtyard accessible from the lower ground floor. In addition, there is a sophisticated security monitoring television surveillance system controlling the house and surrounding area.
